Julie is on the verge of exploring the concept of 'art' as she begins her freshman year at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Believing that a piece truly becomes art when perceived by viewers, Julie is particularly interested in incorporating the audience's perspective as a contextual medium in her artwork. This notion, wherein the audience imparts value and meaning to the work, is directly examined in her piece Cave Painting. Here, she delves into the theme of humanity's ability to perceive abstract beauty and concepts as art through the senses.
Furthermore, in her work Pedestal, Julie manipulates the audience's perception of artwork. A wooden framework that appears to be an art piece is revealed to be merely a pedestal, with the actual artwork hidden inside. She draws parallels between this concept and the contemporary relationship between celebrities and the art industry in Hollywood society.
By challenging and excavating the essence of art itself, Julie aims to share her extensive contemplation on the justification of art with the audience.
