Pedestal

2023
Mixed Media; wooden frames, rhinstones, nylon fabric

The audience's gaze has shifted from art to entertainers adorned with art. Roles have been reversed. Supporting actors become leads, and leads become supporting actors. The artwork that should be exhibited is hidden within the pedestal. It's see-through, yet it doesn't evoke the notion of being a piece of art. When the audience realizes that the pedestal isn't the artwork, they become confused. This pedestal isn't made for showcasing an artwork from the beginning because it has no platform and unable to stand on its own. I liken the relationship between this pedestal and the artwork to how celebrities promote designer brands' clothes and products. I thought about how celebrities, used in the process of art becoming commercialized, can bring in massive money in the short term, but in the long run, I wondered what impact this would have on the art world.
